Default Dwarf Fortress

'Dwarf Fortress'! the most wonderful game ever! (other then Wyvern of corse) Heres a link! --> http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/

Basically its a Dwarf Fort sim, in it you mine out vast halls and rooms and build a, "Dwarf Fortress"!

You can build rooms in the fort, (You designate the mining) and you can place things like doors, statues, cages, tables, chairs, beds, etc, in them or anywhere else you like. (note you have to build the things before you can place them, for instance, you can build rock doors in the 'mason's workshop')

One cool thing about it is the Dwarfs and the interface! you'll learn about the interface easily, just by playing it.

So i'll give you a list of the types of dwarfs: Miners, Masons, Carpenters, Trappers, Metalsmithes, Jewelers, Craftsdwarfs, Nobles, Peasants, Children, Fisherdwarfs, Farmers and last but not least! Mechanics.

And another cool thing is the food system you can build kitchens and stills (a brewing workshop) for turning plants to biscuits, stew, roast or beer, wine, rum. that kind of stuff. heh i know you dwarfs like, fredd will like that part!

Yet another cool thing about thing is the VAST amount of skills! And did i mention how many types of rocks and ores and gems there are in it? This game is BIG! theres even a adventurer mode!

In dwarf fortress mode you get caravans arriving to trade with your fort, from: Elfs, Humans, and other Dwarfs
And migrants.

And much MUCH more!

Oh and you'll also get sieged by goblins so watch out!

I LOVE this game! It ROCKS! <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Very Happy" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s -->

Hints:
1:Make as many things as possible out of rocks! you have so many rock in a fort when you mine enough
2esignate stockpiles for stone, wood, food and refuse outside when you start.
3:You'll have to make a new world first. (note that this may take a while)
4:Read the 'Dwarf fortress' Wiki before playing! Link. --&gt; http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Main_Page
5:Look for a good starting build you'd want to follow.

And remember! Losing is FUN! <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- s -->

Well, My Laptop broke and I'm gonna have to redownload it so I'm waiting for the new version to be released before I get it again. But anyways, I think I've started maybe.... Six(?) fortresses in the 2 or so months I've played it. I've never gotten very far in though, only in my most recent fortress did I reach the (Lets just say fuel for those that haven't played it yet) and only in My last two (I think) Did I even get Nobles. In the beginning I mostly only played Adventurer mode anyways, and that was pretty fun in itself, but it still needs quite a bit of fine tuning before its a real experience. I'm looking foward to the varied cliff faces, thats gonna be a treat, as well as more z-axis stuff like stairs, and even better (Or at least kinda better) sending out patrols to go adventure and Fight monsters and such.

Definitely sounds pretty cool, especially for someone who has been doing all sorts of construction for many years. I will have to give it a try and let you know.

Oh and I've also got to the &quot;fuel&quot; so anyone who doesn't want it spoiled don't click the link.

PS: Sorry about your laptop Zeofar.

Well my first experience with it rather sucked. They did something really stupid with how they programmed something in it. Pegged processor while it is sitting at the initial screen waiting for me to select something to start the game. Just plain shoddy.

Game play definitely looks really fun from everything I read on thier websit and all the screen shots they have. Rather tempts me to disassemble the program and see if I can adjust the code to make it faster.

Kobolds, Elves, and Undead, sure, but from what I hear, In Fortress mode your real enemies are Elephants. Or, the dreaded Skeletal Elephants. DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THEM!

Press the &quot;t&quot; key on your keyboard and move your cursor over the bridge and press the &quot;x&quot; key on your keyboard to remove it. Many buildings that cannot be selected with the &quot;q&quot; key can be selected with the &quot;t&quot; key.

As long as there is something for them to do then they will do it. As long as their not: on break, sleeping, eating, drinking ect.

So if you want them to do something give them something to do.

Something you can do in the beginning, is assigning a stone stockpile outside. Then they'll bring any rocks you mine out to the stockpile.
There! You just got your dwarfs to do something.

Read the beginner's guides on the wiki, and read all of them multiple times as you play.

This will answer most basic questions.

I haven't played as yet. My world is generating and it takes a poopawful time, so are there enemies other than little goblins?
Crafty kobolds?
Brutish, stinking Orcs?
Stupidly shambling trolls?
Displacer beasts?
Undead?
Pretentious and prissy Elven interlopers?
About the creatures, there are:Goblins, Elfs, Humans, Trolls, kobolds, Animals and Creatures from, the cave river, chasm and lava flow. Oh and the demons from the pits, and the &quot;Deep creature&quot;. (note: you never [i]see[i/] the 'deep creature' in 'Dwarf fortress' mode.)

Getting to the &quot;fuel&quot; isn't hard; I got to it in the first month of my first winter. I could've gotten to it much earlier, but, since I wanted to (highlight text in quote to see the end of the sentence)
