Why not make resists harder to come by naturaly or with items?
make reist spells 3% per level of magic make resists from items cap at 40% and have scrolls/pots that give resists give you 50% more (so if you have 20% resits a scroll would up it to 30% if you had 30% it would up it to 45%) (exceptions would be DSM's they would not be limited to 40% resist.) With a red DSM you would gain max resist to fire without having a mage cast resist fire on you. It would make mages and warriors more balanced I think. This way you an't get immunity from something with only armor. (seeing as the best you could do with armor is 40% + scroll = 60% = 20 levels in a magic element) or make scrolls just give 10% more on top of armor.
