Default Helping new players

Just thought I would start this thread to try to help get the new players started.
When you start playing, even before you pick a character, read the players manual, and the survival guide. It will give you a very good idea on the basics of the game. When you decide what type of character you want, fighter or a mage, look over the different races you can become. All have their strengths and weakness's.
The giants, and dwarfs are good choices for fighters, since dwarfs start with extra weapon skills, and giants can take more damage.
If you are undecided as to whether to become a mage, or a fighter, try a halfling character. They are skilled with missle weapons, and can hide, which is like being invisible. Hide, then shoot arrows at the enemies. But be careful, some monsters can detect invisible, so preceed with caution!
Once you find treasure, loot the enemies corpses, and go sell the stuff in a store. This is a easy way to get enough money to start training you character in the skills it will need, either as a mage, or a fighter.
If you are going to be a mage, remember NEVER CALL YOURSELF A WIZARD!! I know the terms are about the same, but Wizards in this game are also the Moderators. My first character got the record for quickest banishment, when he found his first spellbook, and said "I'm a wizard now!". That did not go over good. Found out the next day what happened, lol.
After you have picked out your characters race, first thing you do is enter the tutorial tower at the spot you appear at. In it you will learn how to use weapons, wands, scrolls, and learn more about the race you picked.
Also there is a little quest there, in which you can get something to be able to buy some equipment with. Plus in it there are some trainers that will train you in skills that are less expensive than at other places. But once you train in the tower, you cannot train anymore there in the skill/skills you picked.
Yes I know this is old stuff to most people, but most help threads are for higher level people. So if you have any tips, or techniques that can help beginners, feel free to post. Lol, any tips for levels 1 to 10 would be appreciated, too.
I think next thread will be on basic equipment, and midlevel Must Have items

Well, if its down for good, thats the way the boat floats, King. This thread is to help if it ever actually comes back. Least I am being constructive, not being snide. But it is actually going to be hilarious if it does come back up, with all the snide comments that have been made in the forums since it went away. Well, least i've seen the people that really care about the game, not just theirselves.
Next post here will still be about basic equipment.

Well, here is the post about beginners equipment, finally.
Most characters start off with a basic weapon, except the raks, and nagas, which have there own. Try to equip yourself with some type of ranged weapon, bow or a sling. Ammunition for both is easy to come by, and it sure is easier to kill monsters at a distance, than to fight them hand to hand. For most of the monsters you fight from level 1 to 4, you really don't need to train the ranged skill, but make sure that whatever hand weapon you decide to specialize in gets trained in some.

When you are adventuring, some type of light source is necessary. Wyvern has night and day cycles, so illumination is a must, especially for indoor maps, and rd's. For new people, either get a torch, or a lamp. Torchs are cheaper, but lanterns last longer, and you can also carry oil to refuel them. If you get lucky, you may find, or buy a glowstone. These are permanent light sources, whose illumination area increases with the more you have, up to a certain number.
Try to acquire a backpack, or even a bag to store the valuables you find. Especially gold you are collecting. There are 2 pests in the game that loves to steal your items, namely Leprechuans(steal gold) and nymphs(grabs anything she can get). Bagging your gold makes it safe from leps, and avoiding nymphs keeps your items out of their evil clutchs.
Food is also a necessity to adventure safely. It can be found in stores, or you can survive the old fashioned way, by eating corpses. Make sure that if you do eat a corpse, 1) Make sure its fresh killed, 2)Not a undead monster,3)Not some slime, or jelly, or a pudding. An unfresh corpse, or either of the last 2 leads to poisoning, and for some characters with weak constitutions, death. When your food level gets too low you will suffer some ill effects, until you eat a certain amount.
A few more items that will help are a shovel, pickaxe, and sometimes rope.

Sourcream had about the gist of this thread. Just post stuff that the manual does not answer, or tips or tricks for new players, SO THEY DON'T GET FRUSTRATED, or ask some of the questions we all have heard a jillion times, lol.

This a question for the experianced melee people to answer. How should you utilize your skill points to develop a character up to level 10 who has good survivability? I know many have posted skill sets for 25 levels, but whats the ratio you should spend them on for a beginning character. Assuming 3 points per level.
