A doppleganger would be a hard monster for any level. If it assumed the attributes of the first one to melee it, I would hate to see a doppleganger mimicing betty

A doppleganger is an alien creature(as in, not from this plane, not necessarily from another planet) that, in its base form, is roughly humanoid, with longish arms, grey skin, and no discernable features. A Mimic is a creature that takes the form of commonly seen things, such as a chest, and waits for an adventurer to come try and get it, at which point it attacks.

The description was mostly taken from one of the Forgotten Realms books by Salvatore.
I don't know if a Mimic has a true form or not; the Monster Manual's depiction of it displays it as a chest with arms. *shrug* |
