I'm getting bored and I was thinking of a way to make my summer a little more interesting. Well I came up with a little coding project for my interest. I'm going to make a Random Map Generator, better than the ones in the Map Editor with more functionality. So anyone have any suggestions? I'm going to try and stress my abilities so throw ideas at me if you have any. Once I get it released I'll let you all try it out.

It would be cool If it had more entrances and exits..... (like you had to go down a level and back up somewhere else to get to a certain part of one level....) Don't know if that is possible.....

Maybe if you could make it theme customizable, such as, an undead Random Dungeon, or a sea creature oriented random dungeon, maybe so that all of the random maps wouldn't be clones of each other somehow, or perhaps just try and add some more customization opportunities to your generator...since I know little about programming I'm not exactly sure how difficult it is to add customizable attributes so, meh...do what you can.

[/quote:2ad37] I say more magic traps and more reasons to have the traps... like rooms that trap you in after you pick up the treasure. <!-- s:twisted: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_twisted.gif" alt="Twisted Evil" title="Twisted Evil" /><!-- s:twisted: --> Thanks for the ideas when I get something working that can actually create some maps i'll show it off, going to be sometime though before I can beat the builtin generators. |

Well, while reading your post I thought since you are (hopefully) putting your time into creating something that will benefit the players of Wyvern, that I should at least take some time to think up a half decent attempt at an idea to contribute. So I sat down and put on some rhythmic jazz music and thought, what would make going down sets of stairs for multiple hours more interesting?
Scenery! Yes, yes. I know there are already many types of different tile set contained within the various random dungeons throughout the lands of Wyvern. But once choose which dungeon you are going to visit, you are stuck sitting looking at the same tile set for a long time, apart from the odd visit from a sandy pirate room or graveyard. So...to conclude I would see, tile sets evolving as you venture deeper into the earth in a reasonable manner. Such a forest slowly getting darker, Brick walls turning into ruble walls as you reach the center of the earth! As mentioned above, the edition of more types of those random rooms would make it a little more interesting. This may have not been the kind of suggestion you were hoping for, but as someone once said to me - "It's the little things that count". Slow- |

Generating a random map in the mapeditor and changing the random dungeon code are two very different things. You people seem to be confusing the two in your replies (the latter is not going to happen any time soon and will not be done by a player).

Yeah Arilous right this is a stand alone app. IT will create maps random maps. Its will be better than the generators in the Editor and Random Dungeons in some ways, but not in all. I don't want to replace I want to compliment.
