Default Does Wyvern run on Ubuntu 9.10?

I downloaded it, and when I click on the program nothing happens, except for the first time, it updated then...

Please help, game looks epic.

Have you tried connecting via the webstart client? http://www.cabochon.com/wyvern/webstart

Yes it does work on Ubuntu.

You have to download the pure java installer (the .jar)
Navigate to the "install.jar" file, or whatever name you gave it when downloading
Run it with "java -jar install.jar" or "sudo java -jar install.jar"
Then do "sudo chmod 755 /wyvern/client/wyvernclient" to make the script that starts the client executable.
Running wyvern can be done with "sudo /wyvern/client/wyvernclient"

If you want to install wyvern to the default installation directory (/wyvern/) you will need root acces to install it, and to play the game (for downloading new images etc). You could try installing it to a folder in your home directory (~/wyvern/) or something, but i'm not sure how that would work out, since people have had problems not installing it to the default directory.

It all worked until it came to running it, it just updates over and over again.

Are you sure you are running it with super user rights?

Do you mean that it just stays on the update window? If so, try opening the client while not connected to the internet.

I mean whenever i run it, it just updates. I tried disconnecting it from the internet, but that didn't work.

Are you disconnecting while it is stuck on the updating screen? If so, that's not going to work. Make sure you're fully disconnected from the internet, then click to open the client and give it a minute or two (make sure you remain unconnected this entire time). If, after that, it still does not work, just stick with the webstart client.

I think I know what problem he has. When he starts the client he gets to see the update screen. The game updates, and the update screen goes away, but the main screen never shows up. I have the same problem every now and then, but I just retry a few times.

I never really figured out what causes this though, it's pretty weird.

I use regular Windows XP and I get this happening to me too. It usually only happens when I have other applications open though.

Running the full java with this line in a shell script will bypass the updater:

java -Ddebug.startup=false -cp .:client.jar:content.jar:jl020.jar:jogg-0.0.5.jar:jorbis-0.0.12.jar:mp3sp.1.5.jar:vorbisspi0.7.jar wyvern.client.Client

(for windows use semicolons instead of colons)

How did you get it to work?

You need to enable the sound under "Edit > Settings > Play sound and music"

To get it to work i had to extract the contents of install.jar to the wyvern folder, and I already enabled the sound, it still won't work

Sound is bugged, it sometimes shuts down the client. Best is to leave it off.
