how bout cursed weapons or cursed rings. like there could be a sword where it gives you ultimate power but whenever you wield it you get 100% confusion or something. or a ring that's fairly powerful but makes your ali permanent Lord of Evil.

a sword with ultimate power would be too unbalancing, unless it made you 70%+ weak towards melee, and all elements
and a fairly powefull ring that shifts your alignment permenantly would be just plain dumb...because every guild other than pallys wouldnt care, pallys would never be able to use it (if it lowers lignment). if it's gonna give skill bonus(s) it's going to take away something else skill wise |

Cursed Weapons should do not only minimal damage, have its attack speed slowed but should break easier too, and vice versa with blessed.
Cursed armour should offer minimal protection as well as resistance (if it even gives any). It should also have lower durabilty, again vice versa with blessing. If boots would be cursed, they could make the wearer walk slower. Helmets could blind the wearers. EDIT: If cloth armour for mages was cursed, then it would cause mages to bungle spells. If blessed, well spells do more damage or cost less mana? |

And another thing about cursed objects is...well..it is only literally cursed to the ones who follow a certain God. For example, Look at Aztecan and English. Xipe Totec was the god of Spring and renewal and birth, to honor this good priests would flay the skin off sacrifices and wear it around. However this honoring in the English's religion was reasoned to be barbaric and devilsh (the same as cursed). My point for this was, cursing is only a point of view.

I like the idea of cursed items being useful - for example, a cursed weapon may be the best weapon you can get at a time but will casue problems when you find something stronger. The problem with this is that it is so easy to uncurse items.

I think this already exists to some degree- items that offer protection in one element may be weak against another.
I like the idea of an evil, but awesomely powerful weapon/item. I think a cool way to balance it would be to make that person open to PKing by all players (though they themselves can only fight back in arenas). You could call it "Exile's Treasure" or something. Or have it spawn some random NPC that stalks that player and only that player. I'm pretty sure blessed items are already SOMEWHAT better than others. If you want to make curses harder to remove, just use damnation instead of a curse. It would certainly but that remove damnation spell to work. |
