Copyright only matters to protect things you might otherwise be able to get/use/see. There is no 'freedom of information' act for private information.

Baurus,

Try to make an attempt at reading through everything before posting.
Some people have important things to do >.<.

Also, Try to end long sentences with a . since no one really likes to hear you ramble on and on like this and it really doesn't make sense when you look at it do you know what I mean?

Quoted from Bullfrogz

"We would also need someone to draft the message, and it should come from the players, not the wizards. I think that would be more meaningful. They are always welcome to sign though."

This might seem like an odd post from an unfamiliar name, but please bear with me as I explain myself.

I began playing Wyvern in the really early days...it would have been pre-2004 at least. I know that to be the case because I began playing this game when I was in middle school, and I started high school in 2004. I had played loads and loads of free online games before Wyvern, some well known (like the notorious Runescape), and some not so well known (did anyone ever play Vagabond's Quest of Race War Kingdoms?). Anyway, Wyvern put them all to shame. Its completely dynamic nature made it utterly unique, and I loved how it was constantly evolving thanks to a very lively community (if I remember correctly, there were as many as a hundred people on at peak hours). There were bugs, and some things were totally unbalanced, but overall I found it to be far and away better than anything else I had played. I logged many hours with my best friend at the time, and I look back on those years fondly (there certainly wasn't much more for me to be nostalgic about in those years: middle school sucked!).

As the years wore on, I started becoming more interested in girls than games (as is so wont to happen). Furthermore, I became a pretty fanatical gear head, which also took my focus away from Wyvern. Eventually, I stopped playing altogether. Fast forward to 2008, my first year of college. For whatever reason, I started thinking about Wyvern again. I started poking around, and I found that it was still up and running. For some reason, I stopped playing my old character (which I believe was named Ultrakitty) and made this one (Giuseppe, after the man who made my motorcycle!). (I doubt any of you remember Ultrakitty, I was more interested in dungeon crawling at the time than I was in discussing all the reasons Runescape sucked). Anyway, my return to Wyvern was more than a bit disappointing. Many things had been changed that made it feel more constrained than before, while the number of bugs seemed to have increased exponentially. The player base had sloughed off as well. All in all, Wyvern seemed like a great idea that was in its twilight years. The updates that had taken place were mostly for the worse.

And now it is January 2012, and I am in my final semester of college. Again, for reasons unknown, I decided to check on Wyvern again. I was not shocked at what I found, but that makes it no less sad. I am in full favor of a Wyvern renaissance, and I truly hope that the community finds its way. Though I cannot speak from the technical side of things, as a user I can tell that there are tons of things that need to be done in order to bring the game up to date and reclaim the lost user base. There seems to be a lot up in the air at the moment, so I will be interested to see how everything pans out.

I don't think there is much I can offer in the way of assistance, but I would be honored to sign any sort of petition that you all have drafted for Rhialto.

Rock on.

This statement possesses great truth. Even as someone who is particularly aesthetic and typically choses a game based off of how pretty it is.
I knew from the moment I looked at Wyverns' races on the character-creator page that I loved the game. In retrospect, I wasn't there very long. But I acknowledge that Wyvern has something completely unique to offer; Wyvern was a vision, and with hard work it became a dream.

Even just being able to log in now and then and see the world means something to me. Even though I'm not as dedicated as many of you.

I know more about Rhialto after reading this than I ever knew as I played the game. I can't make any conclusions about him, but I hope he doesn't give up on Wyvern.

Personally I find the comment to be a deceptive one. All though we aren't talking about 3d graphics or anything of that nature the art is outstanding. As far as what the graphics attempt to accomplish they do the job perfectly and the high attention to detail that the many people who have provided for this game have used is amazing. Not picking favorites or anything but Binyamin's area's have always been some of my favorites for its originality and detailed art. I agree that the graphics still require your imagination as a passenger in the ride that is wyvern for this game to work for someone but this is some of my favorite graphics of any game I have ever played.

The update you've all been waiting for...

Quote:
"For those of you wondering why Wyvern has not progressed much recently, we can finally give you an answer and that answer is a little thing we like to call, Wyvern 2. Wyvern 2 is a leap forward in our gameplay technology. New graphics, a smoother interface, top notch gaming severs, and much more will be possible once the rewrite is complete. All of this is expensive, though, and so we will be introducing a pay for play service which will feature new areas, monsters, items, and goodies for you to salivate over. Examples of the types of things we have been working on include;
  • The long lost underwater city of Atlantis. Recently repopulated by aquatic elves, Atlantis has become a thriving cityscape for the underwater races who come to trade in its lush markets and bathe in its protective magic. But not all is as it seems. An evil lurks deep within its sparkle covered walls and threatens to throw Atlantis into chaos once more. Only the greatest of heroes can uncover the mystery of Atlantis' past and prevent history from repeating itself.
  • The Abyss. The multi-layer demonic plane from which all demons spawn can now be traversed. For low level players, there are caverns populated by grublings, imps, and other minor demons. For high level players, there's the possibility of facing the greatest challenge of their adventurering career as they make their way through the lairs of the great demon lords in their native environment. Fan favorites such as Nec-bathat, Demogorgon, and more await. Are you up for the challenge?
  • The Empire of Nimbus Foratu. We've brought to you amazing worlds on land and at sea. We've even let you venture into massive underground caverns populated by evil elves and dwarves. So we thought long and hard where we could take you to next and we decided to set our sights on the clouds themselves. That's right, Nimbus Foratu is a cloud-scape that consists of floating islands that soar high above. This is still in the early production stages so there's not much to reveal to you about it, but we plan to create a new race of peoples to inhabit it as well as lots of unique new monsters and items. The team working on this project are very excited and can't wait to start bringing Nimbus Foratu to life.
  • New Live Quests featuring terrible new threats such as Asmodeus and Tarasque, as well as those fun, quirkly ones that have become such a staple of Wyvern.
  • Eight more playable races and counting. Ever want to play a gnome or a troll? How about werewolves and vampires? Well you won't be wanting for long. Our new production team is hard at work creating these and four other playable races for you to dig your teeth into. But, we don't want to stop there. Before Wyvern 2 is ready to launch we hope to come up with and create as many more as possible. Some will be accessible when you create an account, others can only be unlocked by playing the game.
  • Music. So far we have a few dozen new tunes and counting. Like Kingdom Fanfare? Then you'll love Runaway Dragon or perhaps Spirit of the Dwarf will be more up your alley. Now that we have so many variations, there will be areas with playlists that go from tune to tune rather than replaying the same one over and over again. You'll also be able to create your own playlist if that's more your thing. But, that's not all - Sound effects a plenty are on their way as well. Ever hear a wolf howl in Wyvern or the sweet sounds of a waterfall? Well expect to now be able to hear such things as birds chirping and, yes, even weapons clashing and spells a buzzing as you do battle with your various foes.
And that's just the start of things. We have several more ideas in the works and once we get the ball rolling, we have lots of other ideas that we want to get to you on a regular basis. But we have not forgotten about all you loyal players who have been enjoying Wyvern for free. A sever running the current version of Wyvern will remain active and we hope to continue to recruit wizards from amongst your ranks to work on it. Those who are exceptionally good at it may get tapped to work on Wyvern 2, as we have done with several of your current favorite wizards already.

I'm sure you have lots of questions like; "When is Wyvern 2 coming out, how much will it cost, how many servers are you going to start with, and how large a staff do you have working on it?" Well I can tell you now that we are shooting for a release date of this spring. We're very confident about this date and intend to keep you updated as we go along. Very soon we will reveal a Wyvern 2 development blog where we will show you some of what we have we have been doing as we do it and we'll field more of those questions and comments as we go along. You'll also be able to voice opinions and give us some feedback and ideas to help us improve the projects we're currently working on. These are exciting times and we hope you'll not only stay with us through all this, but come with us this spring when we reveal a bigger, better, and more pristine Wyvern!"

One does not start counting until there is a sequel or a sequel is planned. There is also no "back to the future 1" it's just called "Back to the future"

note: There was a Star Wars IV before there was a Star Wars I too.

I was more implying that Wyvern was still in the "testing phase" when it was taken down.

I think the detail displayed in these 2D graphics is exactly what allows your imagination to run wild. The detail in Wyvern's graphics piques ones' imagination. Yet it is still a 2D game with tiny characters so it can only give you so much. If I were to make a large drawing of someone's character, they'd be likely to disagree that that's not what they think the character looks like. Does a halfling look more like a child, a midget, or an oompah loompah? :P Well it's up to you to decide.

How they look is not important, what matters is how they taste.

There's Windows 7 when there's no Windows 6. And Windows never left the testing phase either, considering the number of bugs left in older versions.

At least Wyvern admits that it still has bugs.

But there is a "History of the World: Part 1" But there is no "Part 2"

That just means that a sequel was planned, but never created.
