Well LQ monsters aren't the whole game, and i'm pretty sure a human and a halfling won parts of the summer feast. Don't remember the last time a fire giant won anything. In the case of stone giants, i don't think it's the best idea -- attack wise anyway. Stone giants being so slow, they either have to be able to deal massive damage with 1 hit (which clubs allow) or attack faster than normal (which axes allow). It wouldn't be a bad idea, just not the best choice for paladin.

Stone giants are always a good pick for resilliance though. because petri resist is always a perk, as is the 350+ HP without HP bonuses that a Stone giant has.
