Default The Lord Of The Rings

I don't really understand the problem people have with these books, although I've only read the first one. From the way people described it, it sounded more like it was a day-by-day journal without any actual "in the moment" action. It was actually pretty well paced, and well worded, and I thought it could've used MORE descriptions of lands and travelling, as well as descriptions of beasts, not less. Whatever, I'm kinda just rambling now. Anyways, anybody else like the books?

I agree, and I for one love the books and I've read the 'Lord of the Rings' &amp; 'The Hobbit' twice! <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Very Happy" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s -->

The two things i liked the most about the hobbit was that tolkien seemed to be narrating the story almost.

And it had Bilbo! who i liked better then frodo. <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- s -->

Like how there are no dwarven women.

I'm not sure, but I think that actually was in the movie.

I loved the series. I first read it when I was 12 and have read it 4 times since (including the silmarilian and the Hobbit.) I also love the movies... For me most of the monsters in the movies were exactly as I had imagined them when I read the books. (although my sister hates teh movies because the monsters are not as she had imagined them when she read the books.) Also the way they portrayed the contrasts in the book was excellent. (especially in the part where sam sings his song while the reagents son goes out to try to turn back the horde.)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention something; I read The Hobbit a few years ago and I loved it, and I woulda continued on to the Lord Of The Rings but I didn't have the first book (only the second and third, go figure), and I never got around to getting it. I tried to read some of the Silmarillion but the times I read it I wasn't in the mood.
Also, does anyone else have The Atlas Of Middle Earth? (Not written by Tolkien, For your information.) I loved looking at it. And if anyone else has it, did you try to figure out how long it would have taken for the Giant Eagles to take The Ring to Mordor? I did. *Chuckles* (I woulda done it too, but I couldn't figure out the time it took to carry the party)
