@bitsie&halloween&pasokon: What is your definition of OP?

Halflings are OP (have an advantage over all other races) because they get 4 skill points and the additional powers. The four skill points were given to humans because they lack anything to make up for it.

Halflings on the other hand have many additional powers to give them an edge not only over humans, but every other race, since they can be good in either melee, magic, or both at the same time.

Halflings are just like all other races. In my own opinion, them having more advantages than humans doesn't make them overpowered but since this isnt about what I think: Halflings arent the only race that can gain a huge advantage over other races either. For example, do you consider a stone giant caveman to be overpowered?

@Bitsie: I think that is a valid point but I dont think that is enough to call a halfling overpowered.

I am not trying to argue here, just trying to get opinions and explanations.

((Trayr walks up to the podium, puts on his reading glasses, clears his throat, and speaks into the microphone.))

Hello Ellandra, I want to point out to you that I said MY OPINION is irrelevant and I wanted to know what 'you guys' think. That being said, me saying I am 'trying to get opinions and explanations' does not contradict my original statement. Furthermore, we here at Trayr Co. care about the opinions and complaints of our readers and want you to know that no grudges will be held against you for saying your true feelings. Thank you.

((Trayr promptly exits the podium))

On the bright side, halflings are the only things that Arilou will eat on a regular basis.

We at Trayr Co. always attempt to provide 'rebuttals' that are factual and not opinionated. Furthermore, no halflings were harmed in the making of this thread, except for Deathwish, who fell down the elevator shaft on his own time. My condolensces to Deathwish's family, thank you.

Overpowered: (adj.) centralizing in power.

That's my definition. In other words, something is overpowered when it can outclass most (if not, all) other existing counterparts in most (if not, all) areas of interest.

Now, that I think more about it, I'm not so sure anymore that halflings are overpowered. Sure, on paper, they might be ridiculous. However, in actual gameplay, I don't think it actually works out that way.

Sure, the numbers tell us that halflings have it over pixies, humans, and elves. However, that is according to what we know about each race. Let us not forget that Rhialto doesn't want to change halflings, and the idea of hidden attributes. I'm sure Rhialto knows what he's doing with his game, and if he doesn't see that halflings are overpowered, then they aren't. Perhaps, the existence of hidden attributes are the great equalizers.

Well, I seem to understand what you guys think and mean when you all say halflings are overpowered. I know what I wanted to know now and can safely say I dont think halflings are overpowered. And just to throw this out there, that isnt going to change. So if a player or a wizard says something that hasnt been said, it wont really matter to me, unless it is completely mind boggling. Thanks everyone for replying to this thread so quickly.

clarification - I never said they were OP. I mearly completed the description of what they have (a bounus to both meditation and healing).

Incidentally, I think the largest negative against halflings hasn't been mentioned. The icon.

There is a difference between "over-powered," which is quite hard to measure, and "over-popular," which is easy to measure (just go look at "who" at any time and the halflings seem out of proportion to other races).

Halflingses are only overpowered if you forget to boil them and discard the water before adding them to your stew.

I just typed who and there were 22 players on and only 2 halflings. *Shrug*

Perhaps it was a fluke when I looked at who several times last week. Oh well.

Maybe. This thread is about overpowered, not popular as you said anyway.

The main reason halflings are (or were) widely believed to be overpowered, is that they compare very favorably to humans. The pros of humans and halflings:

Hoomans:
  • They have 5 more HP than halflings.
  • They have twenty more initial strength than halflings*.
  • They can wear normal sized gear.
  • They get guild pictures.
Halflingses:
  • At level 25, they would have 92 more SP than humans**.
  • They have racial invisibility***.
  • They have natural resistance to poison.
  • They attack faster.
  • They have some racial see invisible.
  • They get 1 hurled, 1 meditation, 1 ranged, and 1 picklocks.
  • They're supposed to have natural trap detection.
  • They supposedly have natural regeneration (I don't know about this).
* This simply means that it takes less strength skill for humans to do more damage, and that they gain more strength when they train it. Since you don't do minus damage when below 70, humans and halflings do the same amount of damage from strength in the beginning. If both a human and a halfling trained 20 strength, the human would only be doing 6 more damage from strength.

** Which is a whopping 184 more SP at the highest guild-level of the mages guild! But, I should mention that in the cavemans guild, humans get a whopping 10 more HP than a halfling would!

*** Yes, many mid to high level monsters have see invisible, but they can't always see to the edge of the screen, so it still helps, especially for archers and mages. Which are the two most popular halfling character builds. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Summary. Halflings > Humans.
